4 simple ways to improve your videos

4 simple ways to improve your videos

When using the Teleprompter for Video app, you should consider a few techniques to improve the quality of your video. Today we will discuss 4 simple techniques which will help you to make better videos.

1. Light

If there was one single piece of advice we would like you to remember, it would be FACE THE LIGHT!

It really is that simple.

Natural lighting is the most flattering, so ideally try to record your videos near a window, with the camera between you and the window and you looking towards the window.

Fancy lighting equipment can allow you to recreate this flattering look in rooms without windows, but most lighting equipment is aimed at recreating natural light so if you have a nice window and a low budget then that’s your best option.

You can also try turning away slightly so the light is coming from the side, this can help capture texture and depth.

2. Use a tripod

There are lots of good reasons for this but the key one is to keep the camera still and avoid shake. It also allows you to stand a little further away and position yourself centrally in the shot. Having your hands available also allows you to use them for gesturing, which is great for building trust.

When I started out I simply propped my iPad against some books so I wasn’t holding it. This was better than holding it, but for the price of a few pounds you can buy a tripod specially designed for an iPhone or iPad, so I use one of these now as they give you more flexibility for positioning the device. Also I cracked my screen when it fell from the fireplace – Oops!

3. Clean your lens

All photography is only as good as the lens you use. You cannot change the lens on your IOS device but you can ensure it is clean from dust and fingerprints. To get a crisper image always remember to give it a wipe clean before recording.

Oh, and don’t use your jumper! Use a proper microfibre cloth!

4. Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is a well known rule for composing photographs or videos. It involves splitting the image into a 3×3 grid and aligning the subject according to the grid lines. With these grid lines in place, you should position your eyes in line with the top grid line, whilst ensuring there is space between your head and the top of the screen.

You can display a 3×3 grid in the Scripted app by turning on the Grid option in the settings menu.

That’s it! Hope you agree that they are all very easy to implement and will help you record more professional videos.
